Weather Poster
환경운동가이자 시인인 김한민과 디자이너 김희애가 참여해 제작한 20장의 포스터는 기후변화를 둘러싼 전형적인 정치적 담론으로부터 벗어나, 기후변화가 현재 일어나고 있는 현실이라는 점을 가까이 받아들이도록 합니다. 관객들은 라운지 프로젝트 온라인 플랫폼에서 각각의 포스터를 다운로드 한 후 소장할 수 있고, 자신의 일터나 카페, 학교 식당 등 곳곳에 배포해 이미지들을 널리 유통시킬 수도 있습니다. 관객들의 이러한 직접적인 개입으로 이미지들은 다각적으로 해석될 수 있습니다.
The 20 posters produced by an environmentalist and a poet Han-min Kim and a designer Fhuiae Kim make us familiar with the reality of climate change, beyond the typical political argument encompassing this issue. The audiences can own the images by downloading each poster from the online platform of the lounge project and spread them among their workplace, restaurants, school cafeteria, and such. The posters can be read from multiple angles as audiences are directly involved in the images.

Fhuiae Kim Solo Exhibition
전시공간 리:플랫에서 2022년 10월 14일부터 11월 5일까지 김희애 작가의 첫 번째 개인전 《스트레스드 디저트(Stressed Desserts)》가 열립니다. 이번 전시는 요즘의 카페 문화를 그래픽 디자인으로 풀어낸 작업을 바탕으로 카페라는 친숙한 공간을 통해 오늘날 우리 삶의 모습을 되돌아보도록 유도합니다.
김희애 작가는 그간 그래픽 노블 시리즈인 『Bottle Nose Dolphin Hotel』, 『Yellow Colored Allergy』, 『Uneven Noon』 등에서 가상 혹은 현실의 특정 공간을 상정하고 그곳과 연계된 내용을 시각화하는 작업을 펼쳐왔습니다. 이번 《스트레스드 디저트》 에서는 ‘카페’에 주목하여, 그곳에서 흔히 볼 수 있는 모티프로 한국식 카페의 성격을 표현합니다. 유럽의 티타임 또는 일본의 킷사텐, 다도 문화 등을 연상시키는 케이크, 성냥, 테이블보, 커피잔 자국 등의 형상이 한 화면 안에 병렬적으로 등장하는 모습은 다양한 국가의 카페 문화를 단시간에 마구 받아들여 형성된 우리나라 카페의 모습을 보여줍니다.
동시대 문화를 해석하는 매개로 카페 공간을 선택한 김희애 작가는 회문(回文, Palindrome) 형식을 띠는 “Stressed Desserts”를 가상의 카페 이름으로 명명하면서 카페를 향유하는 젊은 세대의 특성을 다시금 시사합니다. 회문은 ‘토마토’, ‘level’, ‘다시 합창합시다’, ‘no lemon, no melon’ 등 순서대로 읽어도 또 역순으로 읽어도 같은 말이 되는 단어나 글귀를 칭하는데 작가는 반복되는 삶에서 벗어날 길이 없어 두려워하면서도 한편으로는 규칙에서 안락함을 찾는 현대인의 양가적인 감정을 회문에 빗대어 표현할 수 있다고 이야기합니다.
전시 명이자 가상의 카페 공간인 “Stressed Desserts”는 자극적인 단맛으로 당장의 스트레스를 해소하기 급급한 젊은 세대에 대한 은유 같기도 하지만 한편으로는 힘들어 잠깐 주저앉았을 때 다시 일어설 기운을 북돋아 주는 달콤한 디저트 한 조각처럼 읽히기도 합니다. 이번 전시를 통해 어딘가에 있을 법한 이 가상의 카페를 각자의 방식으로 상상하면서 잠시나마 커피 한 잔의 여유를 누릴 수 있기를 기대합니다.
Fhuiae Kim has been working by assuming a specific space in virtual or real life and visualizing the contents related to it. In this exhibition, she tells various stories about cafe culture these days in graphic design.
Today, cafes mean more than just drinking coffee. For us, who are restricted in many parts of our daily lives due to the pandemic, cafes are also a way out of our stuffy daily lives for a while. The traces of desserts or someone's coffee cup in the work appear with motifs such as plants reminiscent of tropical regions or snow-covered mountains, reminding us of a cafe with an exotic interior. The artist assumes a virtual cafe called Stressed Desserts by combining image fragments that can be found in recent cafes.
Stressed Desserts, the name of the cafe and the exhibition name, is the same message front and back, and contains the ambivalent feelings of modern people who feel scared and at the same time find comfort in it because they cannot escape from repeated rules. The reason why I feel liberated from the cramped space of everyday life is because even the cafe is only a place where I borrowed the scenery. This construction, like the overlapping of dreams depicted in the film "Inception," is also the way we consume the space of a cafe. Through this exhibition of Stressed Desserts, we hope you can experience the space created by the artist and look back on our daily lives today.

Shim Woo Yoon Solo Show: Peony and Crab, Open Recent Graphic Design
‘카니보탄 Kani Botan’은 심우윤이 음악가로 활동할 때 쓰는 이름으로서, 일본 전통 문양 가운데 하나인 모란으로 게를 표현한 의태(衣態)무늬 ‘蟹牡丹(カニボタン)’을 뜻하는 말입니다. 이번 전시를 위해 제작한 ‹カニボタン Kani Botan 카니보탄›은 텍스트와 이미지의 구성만으로 ‘카니보탄’이 추구하는 음악 세계를 드러내고자 한, 음악이 없는 음반입니다. ‘カニボタン’과 ‘Kani Botan’과 ‘카니보탄’의 세 가지 타이포그래피 사이에 존재하는 틈, 그리고 12인치 음반만의 독특한 물리적 구조인 재킷, 스파인, 바이닐의 세 종류 공간을 적극적으로 이용한 이미지의 표현은 심우윤을 둘러싼 다채로운 맥락을 엿볼 수 있게 합니다.
12 inch LP, 315 x 315 x 3 mm ‘Kani Botan’ is a pseudonym of Shim Woo Yoon as a musician. It indicates ‘蟹牡丹(カニボタン),’ a mimetic pattern of a crab realized in peony which is one of the traditional Japanese patterns. Kani Botan is a record without music produced for this exhibition. It is comprised only of text and images to demonstrate the musical world that ‘Kani Botan’ wished to realize. The audience is welcome to take a glimpse of the colorful context surrounding Shim Woo Yoon from the images that readily make use of the gap between the typographic expression of ‘カニボタン’, ‘Kani Botan’, and ‘카니보탄’, as well as the three types of spaces — the cover, spine and vinyl — particular to the physical structure of a 12-inch album.

‘立春大吉 建陽多慶’ means that the beginning of spring brings health, fortune and prosperity to you and your family. Putting up the poster on a door and pillar of homes and shops is a traditional seasonal custom in some Asian cultures.
